Gene flow

« Back to Glossary Index

Gene flow is any movement of genes from one population to another, like pollen carried with a bumble bee from one population to another, or an arctic hare migrating from one population to another.

If gene versions developed in one population are carried to a population where those gene versions previously did not exist, it can be a powerful source of genetic variation.
